چکیده

ObjectivesThe diagnosis of tuberculosis pleural effusion (TPE) remains challenging, traditional diagnostic tests have limited efficacy. This study aimed to assess the performance fluid (PF) lipoarabinomannan (LAM) in TPE.MethodsA method for PF LAM (LAM-PF) was established using LEDBIO's AIMLAM kit. The LAM-PF evaluated 162 HIV-negative patients with suspected TPE.ResultsThe this exhibited good linearity and recovery rate, a limit detection (LOD) 2.90 pg/mL. Using cut-off value 5.33 pg/mL, sensitivity specificity diagnosing TPE (n = 128) were 47.7% 100.0%, respectively. probable 29) definite 99) 41.4% 49.5%, displayed significantly higher compared other methods. Combined testing adenosine deaminase (ADA)and increased 68.0%, area under curve 0.84 (0.77–0.89).ConclusionThis successfully detecting PF, which favorable TPE, particularly challenging cases TPE. ADA improves efficiency.

The aim of this study was to explore the diagnostic value of IL-31 levels in the pleural fluid and plasma to differentially diagnose tuberculous and malignant pleural effusion. We enrolled 91 cases, including tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE, n = 50), malignant pleural effusion (MPE, n = 41), other cases including pneumonia with pleural fluid, pulmonary tuberculosis and healthy people as contr...

Contralateral pleural effusion during chemotherapy for tuberculous pleural effusion.

A 25 year old woman developed a right pleural effusion 6 weeks after commencement of short course chemotherapy for left sided tuberculous pleural effusion. Since the patient improved following continuation of the same treatment, it is presumed to be a case of paradoxical response to anti-tuberculosis treatment.

Tuberculous pleural effusion occurs in approximately 5% of patients with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) infection1 and accounts for 4% of all TB cases in the United States.2 Diagnosis is challenging, with 48–96% of tuberculous pleural effusions negative by sputum acid-fast bacilli (AFB) stain and culture. Thoracentesis is frequently performed and shows an exudative, lymphocytic pleural effusio...

Tuberculous Pleural Effusion

Tuberculosis (TB) has traditionally been one of the major causes of pleural disease and until the earlier decades of the past century held as a principal paradigm of “pleuritis”. Indeed in the presence of a distinctly exudative effusion and a compatible clinical presentation the widely used term “pleuritis exudativa” insinuated a tuberculous aetiology and has therefore been understood to be syn...
